BART Silicon Valley Phase II Extension Project Monthly Construction Update – May and June 2025

VTA’s BART Silicon Valley Phase II (BSVII) Project continues to progress construction activities at the West Portal at Newhall Yard & Maintenance Facility. Activities are within VTA property between Brokaw Road, Newhall Drive, Coleman Avenue, and the railroad tracks.

Continued Work in May – What to Expect:

Current work activities at West Portal will occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Digging, drilling and leveling the ground to prepare the site – expect visible machines and a low humming noise during drilling.
  • Mixing cement and soil to improve ground stability – expect noise from large machines and continuous drilling and mixing sounds.
  • Big cranes and many crane parts are being put together to help lift heavy materials – expect metal sounds and large equipment seen on the site.
  • Crews will dig deep holes and fill them with steel and concrete to make strong walls for the tunnel – expect loud noises.
  • Guide wall construction to assist with directing large soil mixing and cutter machines that will build the support walls underground for the launch structure.

Anticipated Work in June – What to Expect:

In the month of June, crews could extend work hours Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 4 a.m. once a noise curtain is installed between the construction site and the rail corridor. The purpose of the noise curtain is to reduce noise impacts to nearby residential properties.

Work that will occur at night will include:

  • Underground support wall construction, including excavation, lifting operations and concrete placement.

During night work, additional lighting will be in place to increase work area visibility and safety and will be pointed downward toward the workers. Residents may expect some increased flashing of safety lights from nearby construction vehicles.
